Chemical-free disinfection using UV-C generated ozone provides an effective solution for maintaining hygiene in food processing facilities. This technology combines two UV-C wavelengths: 254 nm targets the DNA and RNA of microorganisms for direct germicidal action on exposed surfaces, while 185 nm produces ozone, a powerful oxidant that disperses throughout the facility to eliminate pathogens and odours in even hard-to-reach areas. The method achieves up to 99.99% reduction in common pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria, supporting stringent hygiene standards and minimizing cross-contamination.

 

Unlike chemical sanitizers, UV-C ozone systems leave no residues and avoid the use of chlorine or other harsh agents, improving both food and worker safety. The Technology: UV-C and Ozone Disinfection

Air Disinfection

Airborne microorganisms are a primary source of contamination that conventional cleaning methods cannot address. Our systems use UV-C radiation to sterilise the air as it circulates. This process significantly reduces the level of airborne bacteria, viruses, and mould spores, preventing the spread of contaminants and improving the overall air quality within a facility.

Surface Disinfection

UV-C radiation effectively inactivates microorganisms on surfaces. For optimal results, the entire surface must be exposed to direct radiation. While surface irregularities can create micro-shadows, the combined effect of direct and reflected UV-C light, along with ozone, ensures comprehensive disinfection. This is particularly effective for sterilising packaging materials (glass, sheet metal, cardboard, foil) and equipment in production lines.

How UV-C Inactivates Microorganisms

UV-C radiation works by disrupting the DNA and RNA of microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce and effectively neutralising them. The required dosage varies depending on the type of microorganism.

  • Bacteria: A major group of single-celled organisms. Spore-forming bacteria (bacilli) are more resistant and require a higher UV-C dose for inactivation compared to vegetative bacteria.
  • Viruses: As obligate intracellular parasites, viruses require living cells to replicate. UV-C radiation at a wavelength of 253.7 nm is highly effective at deactivating viruses, preventing them from causing illness.
  • Mould and Yeast Fungi: These microorganisms, which can cause spoilage and health issues, are effectively controlled with appropriate doses of UV-C radiation. Their spores are typically more resistant than their vegetative forms.
  • Algae: UV-C is effective against various types of algae found in water systems, though some species may require significantly higher doses for complete inactivation.
