The SPARK-EX SDN and SDD detectors are engineered for reliable ignition source detection in industrial processes. The SDN model is optimised for total darkness, while the SDD model operates in ambient or artificial light.
Both detectors identify the infrared (IR) signature of sparks and flames, even through dense material concentrations. Upon detection, they signal the DC1 control panel to activate countermeasures, such as extinguishing systems.
Constructed for high reliability, the detectors are manufactured from a solid piece of raw material to withstand production environments.
SDN & SDD are integral components of our complete Spark Detection and Extinguishing System, a comprehensive solution for proactive fire and explosion prevention.
The SDN and SDD detectors are engineered for straightforward external installation on process pipes or ductwork using a specialised mounting adaptor.
This adaptor features a robust sapphire glass window, allowing the detector to monitor the material flow while ensuring optical clarity and longevity.
For applications with high concentrations of dust, an optional air-purged adaptor is available. This system uses compressed air to keep the sapphire glass window clear of particulate accumulation, ensuring the detector’s view remains unobstructed for optimal performance and reliability in demanding environments.
The SPARK-EX SDN spark detector is engineered for high-performance operation in environments of total darkness, such as enclosed material handling systems. It identifies sparks and flames by detecting their specific infrared (IR) light signature, even through dense concentrations of material.
Upon detection, the SDN detector signals the DC1 control panel to initiate pre-configured countermeasures, such as extinguishing mechanisms, to neutralise the ignition source before a fire or explosion can develop.
With operational reliability as a primary design principle, each SDN detector is manufactured from a solid piece of raw material to ensure it can withstand the demanding conditions of industrial production.
The SPARK-EX SDD spark detector is specifically engineered for reliable operation in areas exposed to daylight or artificial light, such as open conveyor systems.
Upon detection, the SDD detector signals the DC1 control panel to initiate pre-configured countermeasures, such as extinguishing mechanisms, to neutralise the ignition source before a fire or explosion can develop.
With operational reliability as a primary design principle, the SDD detector is manufactured from a solid piece of raw material. This robust construction ensures it can withstand the physical impacts and demanding conditions of industrial production environments
In applications where ambient or process temperatures fall outside the specified operating range of our spark detectors (-40°C to +70°C), direct installation is not recommended due to the risk of sensor damage or performance degradation.
To address these thermally challenging environments, the spark detectors can be remotely positioned and optically coupled to the monitored area—such as a pipe or duct—using a high-temperature-resistant fibre optic cable. This configuration enables reliable spark detection without exposing the sensitive electronic components to extreme environmental conditions.
The fibre optic cable functions as a passive optical conduit, transmitting the specific infrared radiation emitted by sparks from the process directly to the detector’s sensor head. This method ensures that detection accuracy is maintained while preserving the operational integrity and service life of the equipment.
